SOLUTION: Turn off the mobile data, start the GoPro app and pair camera again if needed. If mobile data is turned on, app will get so confused it can't even. After live-view has started, mobile data can be turned on again for streaming etc. This was tested an verified on two different devices. I no longer want to flush my Hero down the toilet.
